About Newtown Square

Newtown Square, also known as Newton Township, was settled in 1681 and incorporated just 3 years later. The first settlers were Quakers from Wales seeking a better life for themselves and their families. William Penn planned out the town much like he did Philadelphia and many others in the area. The current population is at just under 12,000. Some farmland and large estates can still be seen in town, but most of it has become suburban.
