About Montgomery County
Montgomery County was created in 1784 out of part of Philadelphia County. While the origin of the name is uncertain, most think it is likely it got its name from Richard Montgomery, an American Revolutionary War general killed in 1775 while attempting to capture Quebec City, Canada. The original settlers of the county were Quakers from Wales seeking refuge from persecution. Today this is mostly a suburban county and is known as the 20th wealthiest county in the country.
